From the era of the first monastic communities in Meteora, a network of communication paths was gradually opened. The steep terrain advocated the preservation of a large part of the old trails, as the newer access roads to the monasteries eventyaly went around the Meteora towers.

These old trails, combined with some rural dirt roads, can be used to create a variety of hiking routes, starting from nodal points, such as Kalambaka or the monasteries. However, despite the high aesthetic value of the area, there is not a common marking system for this hiking grid, apart from some signage serving the mountain bike and mountain running courses.

The most popular routes are the ones below:

  1. Doubiani-Ypapandi monastery
  2. Doubiani-Varlaam monastery glebe
  3. Kalambaka-Agia Triada Monastery
