Mt. Hymettus: Kareas monastery-Michailidis memorial
Mt. Hymettus: Kareas monastery
Kareas monastery-Michailidis memorial
This trail connects the edge of the urban fabric of Athens with the heart of Mt. Hymettus, the remote and desolate place that mountaineers chose to set up a spartan memorial to the most renown of Greek mountaineers, the climber George Michailidis.
From the terminus of Kareas bus, ascends the steep concrete road until the monastery of Agios Ioanis Kareas, hidden in the cove of the close ravine. From here, several combinations of paths can bring you to the place of the memorial.
The proposed trail follows the most used path, well marked with Red Dots and some signposts. From the memorial, you will enjoy a panoramic views of the Attic landscape. From this point, we can go back to our steps, or continue in various directions on the other routes proposed by Mt. Hymettus topoguide.
