Mt. Hymettus: Kesariani monastery-Kareas
Mt. Hymettus: Koutalas monastery
Kesariani monastery-Kareas
An easy crossing between two characteristic points of the North Hymettus, the Kesariani monastery and the Kareas suburb.
The route starts from the Kesariani monastery and passes the Hill of Taxiarches (the Archangels), where there are two interesting religious monuments (an Early Christian basilica or Fragomonastiro and the chapel of Taxiarches). From the south edge of the recreation area, we descend to a very wide path until we reach a small dirt road. Right here begins a good path: it descents an open gully and meets a crossroad of minor dirt roads. Do not follow any of these roads but enter the clear path. After following the path for a while over a ridge with an open view, go down to the woods of Koutalas and reach the overlooked recreation area of Viron. Follow minor dirt roads, pass over the small Agios Georgios Koutalas monastery, and cross the recreation area to reach the asphalt road. Through smaller roads come out on the main avenue of Kareas, next to a bus stop.
