Katavothra-Pirgos peak
The Katavothra - Pyrghos route indicates the only short way from the Katavothra plateau to the highest peak of Oeta, Pyrghos. Indirectly, it offers a hiking connection with the Livadhies, for anyone who does not want to follow the endless - albeit not unpleasant -dirt road passing from Valorema. Although the path is not trodden, the consistent marking and the topography will guide us to cross a vague field and complete a very nice ascent.
At the beginning, the route follows a forage dirt road that leaves from the central axis Pyra Irakleous - Livadhies and moves towards the large ravine Reniorema. We continue on successive alleys that fade out within the Tsipratiko valley, where the homonymous spring is found.
A little upstream from Tsipratiko spring, we enter a good path, marked with Orange Signs. The route approaches and then closely follows the axis of a large forested ridge. Marking leads the route to 3 abrupt passes, always on the ridge axis. We come out to a bare plateau, SE of the summit. So far, the path is based on the ridge axis and the markings, while the path trace is elsewhere clear and elsewhere not.
From the plateau, a moderate path traverses a stony slope and brings us into a narrow, steep stream. We follow the ravine until almost the end, at the base of rocks, where the marking guides us to the left, in a nice pass. Above the pass, the sloping meadows of Pyrghos stretch. With the help of the signage, we spot the shortest and smoothest axis to the peak.
