Geosites are the geological monuments of a place, that is, the geological elements, such as caves, fault traces, rare geoforms, noteworthy deposits, rocks, minerals, mines, quarries, paleontological remnants, waterbeds, rivers, lakes and gorges, which have excellent value in aesthetic or scientific terms and deserve study, promotion and protection.
