Dirfys topoguide: Agii Apostoloi in Vouni

The area to the west of Mt Dirfys, that is, between the villages of Steni, Loutsa, Katenoi, Vouni, Mistros etc, historically constitutes the rural backyard of the dynamic city of Chalkis and reflects, with intensity decreasing with distance, all the fluctuations of the place the religious constructions had in every period. Thus, part of the late Byzantine and post-Byzantine power of the coastal zone is mirrored in the construction, within this sparsely populated but safe zone, of churches of particular architectural value for their time, such as the Paleopanagia in Kato Steni and Agia Paraskevi in Loutsa and Metamorfosis and Agii Apostoloi in Vouni.

Today, these monuments are now indistinguishable, among a cloud of younger, often standardized, rural and parish churches.

Dirfys topoguide: The church of Metamorfosis in Vouni

The church of Metamorfosis Sotirs (Transfiguration of the Savior) in Vouni, today the cemetery church of the village, consists of two distinct sections, of different periods. The lower part of the church is Byzantine, with irregular stone wall and tiles connected with plaster, while the upper part is of the 17th century.
The neighboring church of the Agii Apostoloi (Holy Apostles) has undergone the same reconstruction, probably in the same period.

The post-Byzantine church of Agia Paraskevi in Loutsa is a large cruciform church with heavy stone masonry, supported by four outer pilars, built between the 15th and 16th centuries. The church was the katholicon of an old monastery, of which little is known.
