Refuges of Mt Taygetos

Mt Taygetos mountain huts

There are three mountain huts on Mt Taygetos. The main refuge of Mt Taygetos is located on the foot of the eastern slopes of the highest peak (location called Varvara). The refuge was built in 1938 but was destroyed in WWII. The new building was built near the original site in 1961 and sleeps 26 people with basic amenities.
Tsarkos bivouac is actually an old farmer's hut. It has undergone severe damages from the time it was reconstructed (2000), however in winter it can provide protection to 4-6 persons. There are 2 beds, a few utensils and a petrol heater.
In Agios Dimitrios there is small bivouac, in good condition but closed.

Photos and descriptions for all mountain huts of Mt Taygetos are included in the hiking application Taygetos topoGuide, available for both Android and iOS (iPhone and iPad) devices.
The application guides the user to locate the mountain hut easily.
